Submerged manifolds are commonly used for waste water disposal into estuaries and the ocean. The mixing of buoyant jets from a long manifold discharging into stagnant receiving water of uniform density was studied by means of hydraulic model experiments. The manifold consisted of a pipe with round ports along both sides, issuing jets horizontally from the ports. The purpose of the thesis is to study the mixing of merging jets from a manifold, and to provide the basis for design of a manifold with respect to port spacing, port size and discharge velocity of the jets.
