Recent evolutions and improvements in three material families are presented: glass ceramic matrix composites for uses up to 1000 C; ceramic matrix composites for uses up to 1500 C; oxidation resistant carbon/carbon composites for uses beyond 1500 up to 2000 C. The strengths of these thermostructural composites are summarized. Their usefulness in applications (temperature/time) in the fields of missiles and ramjets, hypersonic transportation systems, space planes, etc. is shown.
