A computer model has been developed for the numerical analysis of the dynamic response of military bridges when traversed by tracked or wheeled vehicles. The bridges are of a type which may be of nonuniform depth and are represented as a single span, simply supported beam. The vehicles were assumed to be suitably represented as a multi-degree of freedom, linear spring-mass system with viscous damping. The model was designed to account for initial dynamic conditions, variable vehicle velocity, and the loss of vehicle wheel contact with the surface of the bridge. Predictions are presented for a Challenger type vehicle crossing UK BR 80 type bridges concerning bridge length, ramp slopes, vehicle velocity and initial conditions.
