Environmental effects that may degrade spacecraft electrical interconnections are reviewed. The ESA policy is that metallurgically joined connections are to be preferred (particularly soldered joints). Solderless or mechanical electrical connection techniques intended for use on ESA spacecraft must be initially qualified according to a qualification-test program specification. Guidelines for such a specification are summarized. (Author)
