The report described the investigations conducted to provide a 'Pneuma-Grip' handling device for large solid propellant rocket motors to minimize problems associated with lifting, rotating and transporting of large and heavy rocket propulsion systems. The 'Pneuma-Grip' utilizes flexible pneumatic members (tires) normally encased within annular channel-shaped retainers. This rigid framework affords a maximum of structural strength and the tires, when inflated, provide the gripping forces required for both horizontal or vertical lifts and normal transport requirements.
