By means of comparative evaluation, the report describes a transit concept known as 'Dial-A-Ride' and suggests possibilities for local demonstration. Its objectives are to determine applicability of existing and foreseeable technology to possible Dial-a-Ride service in the Twin Cities area; identify the need for new policy assumptions applicable to Dial-a-Ride; identify the goals which can be accomplished through such improved transit services; determine the various strategies that may be used locally for operating a Dial-a-Ride system; obtain data on costs and funding of Dial-a-Ride systems, past and present; and examine methods for establishing and implementing Dial-a-Ride demonstrations.
