The Transportation Systems Center, Langley Research Center, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Agency of Transportation, State of Vermont conducted a program sponsored by the Research and Special Programs Administration of the Department of Transportation to evaluate LORAN-C as a supplement to existing navigation aids for general aviation aircraft, particularly in mountainous regions of the United States and where VOR coverage is limited. This report highlights results obtained in completing 215 non-precision approaches and 104 flights. The flights, initiated in the summer months, extend through four seasons and practically all weather conditions typical of northeastern U.S. operations have been experienced.
