A joint project proposed for construction consists of an 11-mile two-lane busway between Central Los Angeles and El Monte. The busway will encourage the use of buses and lessen the dependence upon private automobiles. While this will have a short term benefit on air pollution, the increased carrying capacity of the corridor is expected to reduce the need for additional conversion of urban space for highway facilities. The primary adverse environmental effect will be the displacement of people involving approximately 69 living units. There is no physical encroachment upon two parks, and attenuation measures to mitigate possible increased noise are planned. A third park is affected on its west side by a 3 to 10 foot aerial encroachment of a railroad viaduct.
