The purpose of the program was to investigate motor vehicle accidents and injury causation and provide complete information collected from selected damaged automobiles, to produce appropriate data feedback to assess current safety design, to formulate scientifically-based proposals from vehicle safety improvement, and to provide suggestions to federal and local governments so that improved legislative programs can be initiated.
