Preliminary to a demonstration of Rankine cycle external combustion propulsion systems in urban transit vehicles, survey data were collected to measure the extent of public concern about air pollution and the extent to which California residents see the need for alternatives in transportation to alleviate or reduce air pollution. Three surveys were conducted. In addition, a survey of patron attitudes on steam and diesel buses was made. Findings are summarized in detail, and data tabulations are appended. Sampling methods for each survey are also discussed.
