Adetermination was made of the long-range needs of all types of aviation activity in the Amarillo Planning Area, followed by a recommendation of an airport development program which could provide the necessary General Aviation airport facilities, in addition to those that will be provided by the existing Amarillo Air Force Municipal Airport. The recommended airport system was planned to complement the major future institutional developments in the Planning Area. These studies covered the time periods through 1985 and were designed to be utilized as a tool and a part of the overall area planning program for the Amarillo Planning Area. The study provided a detailed analysis of the expected future distribution of the general aviation market. These determinations were based on the interrelationship of population and personal income and the propensity to own a general aviation aircraft. The application of the effect of airport accessibility in determining the ability of potential airport sites to serve the Amarillo market was a major factor in these studies. Existing and possible future air space considerations was another major factor in the recommendation of an airport development program. (Author)
