The report evaluates the National Accident Sampling System (NASS) being administered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. NASS is a nationwide system of investigative teams whose goal is to collect nationally representative highway accident data. The report supplements the Safety Board's original evaluation of NASS (Report No. NTSB-SEE-78-1 adopted March 2, 1978), which included recommendations to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
