In this report, a brief survey of satellite applications in China is presented. It covers the main fields of satellite application such as telecommunications, earth-observation remote-sensing techniques, meteorological forecasting, and microgravity experiments. A list of 29 launches using home-made satellites and ground equipment can be drawn, including six earth-stationary-orbit communications satellites, 13 low-orbit recoverable remote-sensing satellites, two polar-orbit meteorological satellites, and 12 science-and-technological test satellites. Multiple purpose and typical examples are given showing good social and economic benefits attained. In China, since the successful launch of DFH-1 dated April 24, 1970, 33 launches have been made whereby 33 self-developed satellites, one COMSAT (Communications Satellite Corp., CS) Asia-1, one AUSSAT (Australian Satellite) (CS (Communication Satellite)) and two S & T (Science and Technology) test satellites (one for Pakistan, another for Sweden) were sent into appropriate orbits.
