The work which forms the basis of this report was undertaken because certain fundamental questions had arisen about the basic behavior of jet ejectors. Included are considerations of jet ejectors for various purposes, including: internally blown jet flaps for lift augmentation for STOL aircraft, ejector wings for VTOL and V/STOL aircraft, and mass-flow augmentation in air supplies for air cushion landing systems. Also, consideration has been given to the possibilities of configuring STOL aircraft using both ejector flaps and air cushion landing systems. The approach is to first describe a jet ejector. An idealized theoretical analysis is then presented for the case of constant area mixing with incompressible flow having no flow losses and no forward speed. A practical analysis is then given which shows the effects of flow losses and forward speed. (Author Modified Abstract)
