Because forward speeds increase and seas and inland waters get more crowded, it is necessary to give more attention to the manoevering abilities of planing ships. For a fundamental research to these manoeuvering abilities, a cooperative study is proposed by Delft University of Technology, and MARIN, Maritime Research Institute the Netherlands. In this report an overview is given of the total scope of work of an intensive study for the manoeuvring behavior of a planing model.
