This volume contains the forecast of ships required to carry the U.S. trade with foreign nations to the year 2000. The methodology including inputs and assumption are described. The forecast is given for total number of ships, for U.S.-flag vessels and for anticipated new entrances in the fleet. This is broken down into 9 types of vessels. For every .5-year increment, beginning in 1975, numbers of ships are given for a deadweight category along with their principal characteristics for each of the four major coasts of the U.S.
