This report contains preliminary estimates of the number of police reported crashes, injuries, and fatalities for 1996. Trend data are presented using these estimates. The trend for the fatality rate per 100 million vehicle miles of travel is also included. The national estimates included in the report are quite extensive and cover a wide range of frequently used crash classifiers. Several estimates are compared to the corresponding values of 1995. The results are presented in tabular and graphical form and are also described in a set of summary findings.
