The whole range of crane rails used in and produced by the British Steel Corporation has been examined with a view to improvement and standardisation. Three sections to cover all crane rail requirements for rails of over 50 kg/m (100 lb/yd) were put forward in an earlier version of this report which was circulated within the British Steel Corporation. The use of steels harder than BS.11: 1959 was strongly recommended for heavy wheel loads and/or for intensive use. The report has now been revised to incorporate a few suggested modifications and is re-issued for circulation outside the BSC. (Author)
