The performance of a rocket, say a chemical rocket, can be greatly improved by dynamically transferring energy from one part of the propellant to another. Although with present technology the achievable degree of energy concentration is low, payload increases on the order of 20 percent are theoretically possible. With unlimited energy redistribution increases of a factor of two are possible.
