The patent relates to an articulated boom suspended from a catamaran-like vessel which carries an observation compartment. Controls articulate the boom to place the compartment at a desired location, for example, to allow a close inspection of the bottom of a ship's hull. Life support conduits connect the compartment to the surface and safety equipment is included to permit an emergency exit should there be system failure.
