Because of many objections from the using ships concerning the necessity to separately stow aircraft ditching marker lights and the associated sea water activated battery, an investigation was made to determine the feasibility of packing the light and battery in a ready to use condition. The ultimate desire was to eliminate separate storage requirements and the present time-consuming procedure of inserting and connecting the battery to the light before use. Batteries were packaged in plastic bags and sealed by three methods. After 100 hours exposure to 98% humidity the batteries were discharged. It was concluded that heat-sealed and rolled and tied plastic bags were satisfactory methods to preserve the battery condition.
