Combustor concepts having the potential for significantly lower emissions levels were investigated. The combustor emissions reduction was measured in an engine test. Emission characteristics common to all engine classes are shown. Multiple-burning zone combustors, specifically the double-annular and swirl-can combustors were studied. Airblast and air-assist fuel injection techniques were evaluated for emissions control potential. The combustor sceening and refining phases are summarized.
