Test results on the mechanical drive have indicated that the system is capable of deploying a typical telescopic mast under ambient conditions. The design can be considered for a wide range of space applications since, in theory, there is no limit to the number of tubes that can be deployed. The mechanical system offers a number of advantages over a gas driven system, such as the ability to retract and also provide a significant mass saving.
