Method for determining degree of graphitization of carbon/carbon composite material combines infrared spectral experimental technique with thermodynamical theoretical model of solubility. By interrupting manufacturing process at almost any time and applying method, one can judge quality of composite and monitor chemical transformations taking place during process. Also computes effective solubility parameter for composite considered as unitary material. Parameter significant for subsequent fabrication steps involving chemical treatments; e.g., coating or joining with adhesives.
