Report presents study of performances of digital carrier-signal-tracking loops used in reception of radio signals containing quadrature-phase-shift-keyed (QPSK) modulation representing binary non-return-to-zero data. Presents mathematical models of received signal and of noise. Describes lock-detector algorithm and presents equations characterizing lock-detection performance. Equations applied in analyses of three QPSK carrier-tracking loops: Costas crossover loop, maximum a posteriori estimation loop, and generalized Costas loop. Results of computer simulations agree with equations.
