NASA technical memorandum discusses status of emerging methodology of computational simulation of fractures in fiber/matrix composite structural components. Part of methodology consists of step-by-step procedures to simulate fractures in individual and mixed models in variety of generic composite-material components. Another part of methodology embodied in computer program CODSTRAN, which incorporates mathematical models of mechanical properties of composites and of fracture mechanics. Authors assert methodology ready for widespread application.
