The paper presents methodologies for constructing optimal trajectories for rotorcraft executing nap-of-the-earth flight over known terrain. Unlike the standard techniques, the present approaches require only a one-dimensional numerical search for determining optimal trajectories. Numerical algorithms are developed using two kinematic vehicle models in conjunction with optimal control theory.
