In an interview, Douglas E. Noble, Senior Director of Management and Operations, ITE, talked about his career. Noble said his path into transportation engineering was a little roundabout as he started at Purdue University with the intent of becoming a landscape architect. He moved into the civil engineering program, and he became a student member of ITE. He has served in four types of organizations that effect transportation policy and delivery: a government agency; a consulting firm; an association; and in public office. Working at ITE headquarters has really expended the network of people he knows beyond what he would have experienced in a consulting or public agency position. He has had the opportunity to work on some realty interesting and challenging projects that have an impact on how people practice their profession.
