This paper traces the 15 year development of a large front end loader, from prototype to maturity. Emphasis is placed on: the principal problems that lay in its path and their solution; the performance improvements that made the 600 a prime loading tool; the specification changes that reflect the input of the maintenance and operating people; and the adaptations that tailored the 600 to unique applications.
