The requirements presented in this document cover the design factors which might cause any part of an electrically motor driven fuel pump assembly to act as an ignition source for explosive fuel vapors within the airplane tank. Revision E of this document is a complete rewrite of the previous version. It expands the scope to cover requirements contained in 14CFR 25.981 and FAA AC 25.981-1C for fuel pump safety, focusing on auto ignition prevention and the general requirements of MIL-STD-882. Other topics relating to pump safety due to ignition sources will be covered in a separate ARP. Otherwise, the content of the document has been updated to include thermal safety recommendations for pumps at the assembly and component level.
