Six Sigma initiatives impact customer satisfaction, market competitiveness and profitability. Innovative solutions to effective problem solving and problem prevention are critical elements of any Six Sigma and Design for Six Sigma project. In contrast to well-known idea generation methods such as brainstorming, TRIZ, a Russian acronym for the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving, provides a more structured, better organized, highly repeatable and documented approach to innovative solutions development. Principles, benefits and an industrial case study of TRIZ are discussed in this paper.
