A finite element airbag model has been developed using the LS-DYNA software and validated against benchmark laboratory data. Detailed model validation was carried out successfully against laboratory tests using surrogate cylindrical targets. The model captures the airbag inflation and loading phenomena with favorable data comparison, including the effects of standoff and inflation power on target response. The validated model was used to study airbag-target interaction over a range of crash conditions using two airbags with different inflations.
