Productivity increase in mechanical design through the application of computers and, especially, computer graphics is today well recognized. The engineering schools are taking a variety of paths to education in this new discipline in which faculty have little experience. A set of minimum proficiencies for ME graduates has been proposed and a consortium of colleges has begun developing educational materials in CAD/CAM. In the paper, the programs at several leading schools are described to illustrate current progress.
