Commonality in engine technology is a basic requirement, taking into account the cost and difficulty of developing new sub-systems. This is especially crucial for the main components of the engines, like oil pump. During the development of a 5 cylinder diesel engine that is produced and developed completely from beginning, that uses the four cylinder version architecture, a unique oil pump has been studied in the beginning of the program. In this study, the design and development of a new oil pump drive system is explained which is supported by lubrication system and component based system dynamics optimization.
