The relative merits of installing the Turbojet Engines of a High Speed Transport Airplane in Nacelles versus burying them within the wing is considered with respect to the effect of each configuration on the size of the airplane, its operating speed and economy and its practicability as regards maintainance and flight safety.The considerations which must be taken into account in developing the overall airplane design to satisfy a specified set of requirements are dealt with in their essential detail.
