Optimizing timing challenges engineers to continuously improve their processes and search for feasible alternatives which do not degrade work quality. That is critical in today's highly competitive and cost driven environment. Any Company that wants to compete globally needs to pursue shorter development timing. This paper shows a quantitative time-based evaluation of two vehicle modeling procedures for finite element method analysis. First one corresponds to common practice in industry. Second one is based on an automated meshing process tool.At first, manual process is described. Multiple phases of modeling work are mentioned. Specific characteristics involving vehicle modeling are shown.Next, it is discussed the execution of a data collection plan capable of showing comparative data to evaluate both methods. A quantitative evaluation is made for the first process, highlighting individual contributions of each phase in overall time.At last, it is suggested a procedure based on an automated meshing tool. Time data is collected using the same parameters that were used before. Its advantage is demonstrated in terms of global working time economy since the correct way to use it is observed.
