Controls for turbo-prop power plants must fulfill a wide variety of requirements, including both those that are fundamental to gas turbine operation and those that stem from the need to simplify airplane operation. This paper discusses these requirements and their influence on system complexity. The relationships among performance, complexity, and reliability are considered, and recommendations for future lines of development are offered.
