The data presented in this paper demonstrate that a well-designed taxicab fleet test can be an effective tool in evaluating motor oil formulations at a reasonable cost. The results obtained in a New York City taxicab test are discussed and compared with laboratory test experience. The field performance data discussed indicate that positive crankcase ventilation systems can be beneficial if well maintained, or harmful if they are neglected.
