The U.S. Coast Guard is having 16 new 110 foot Island Class patrol boats built by Bollinger Machine Shop & Shipyard, Inc. of Lockport, LA. Bollinger is producing the patrol boats under license to Vosper Thornycroft (UK Limited). There are a number of propulsion system design features incorporated in the Island Class patrol boats carried over from the original Vosper design which are unique to the Coast Guard. A sampling of those features includes; Paxman Valenta 16CM main engines, underwater main engine exhausts, key less propeller shafts, Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen AG (ZF) reduction gears and a multiple station control system.
