Properties of basic oxygen steels were compared with same grades of open hearth steels. Grades studied were 1018, 1046, 8620, and 50B50. Specimens and pilot production parts were studied. Results indicated that, for equivalent chemical composition, the basic oxygen steels were comparable with the open hearth steels.
