At present, developments are taking place within tractor design where to a higher degree than before attempts are being made to optimize hydraulic systems as regards energy consuption, system costs, and operational comfort. In this paper we discuss the demands for oil supply to the various hydraulic components on the tractor. Parallel with this, we examine how best to meet these demands by choosing the right system and pump combination. The advantages of using a variable displacement pump combined with a fixed displacement pump are stressed.
