The Foresight Vehicle programme is a UK Government initiative to identify, develop and demonstrate appropriate product and process technologies for road transport for the future.Launched in 1995, the programme now comprises 110 projects with over 400 participating organisations and a total value approaching £100 million. The paper explains the strategy developed by the Steering Group and the process it has used to select the technologies in which proposals are sought. It also gives an overall picture of the coverage of the current programme as an introduction to the technical papers reporting progress on particular projects.
