Photographs of patterns viewed just ahead of an agricultural machine were analyzed using conventional image recognition techniques. Extraction of accurate information about the path of the machine is made difficult by the varying textures and light conditions in the field. Computer programs are described which show promise for accomplishing the guidance task with adequate speed on a reasonably-priced computer.
