We report a controlled study of fully-formulated motorcycle engine oils to determine the effects of base oil selection on power output. The power output of several different motorcycles using test oils having identical additives and viscosity were compared on a chassis dynamometer. The test oil containing synthetic base stocks consistently afforded measurably higher maximum power output
