Successful application of a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) in jet engine overhaul requires understanding, cooperation, and commitment from all technical departments within a company's management structure. The CMM installation represents a major advancement in measurement technology that requires changes to the policies, procedures, and traditional perceptions regarding dimensional measurement that have gone relatively unchanged for more than 30 years. The challenge a company must meet for a highly successful CMM installation is to change the “set in stone” thinking, policies and procedures regarding dimensional measurement that can put a strangle hold on the success and enormous potential of a CMM installation.
