A highly functional shop layout put into use by Smith's Transfer Corp. is described in detail. The layout is based on the use of two service lanes extending through the length of the shop, and takes into consideration the need for fast repairs as well as lengthy overhauls. The functional design of the shop, plus good operating procedure, allows for maximum maneuverability, efficiency, and cleanliness and keeps the equipment available for maximum work time.
