This paper describes an automatic flight control system in which the control surface follow-up element has been eliminated. In this system, the transfer characteristics of an electronic computer-amplifier are matched or made complementary to the transfer characteristics of a servo actuator in which the mechanical output is approximately the integral of an input electrical signal. This principle is in no way similar to that of a system in which the servo is simply a force generator and feedback is in the form of control surface reaction force.
