This is a discussion of the need for standardization in inertia brake dynamometer technique and the basic principles for setting up a “S” cam air brake for evaluation under laboratory conditions. Specific brake conditions show the need for standardization of brake set-up for obtaining the optimum output from a brake and friction material combination.
