A comprehensive program of factory, flight, and operational suitability testing has accompanied the development of the TF39-CF6 family of 40,000 lb thrust class, high bypass ratio turbofan engines. Test results of performance, mechanical durability, and handling characteristics under environmental and operational extremes indicate that the good experience of the TF39 in the Lockheed-Georgia/-USAF Military Airlift Command's C-5 transport will carry on in the CF6 when it is delivered to airlines late in 1971 in the McDonnell-Douglas DC-10.
