This paper analyzes the HS-CAN pre-crash data, namely vehicle speed, engine speed, accelerator pedal position and brake application in a 2010 Toyota Camry. The Camry EDR monitors messages on the HS-CAN for the pre-crash conditions to be recorded. Evaluation of the HS-CAN data provides understanding of the data and limitations of the EDR. Comparison was made between the HS-CAN pre-crash data and independent instrumentation data. The refresh rate, resolution and difference to independent instrumentation of each of the pre-crash parameters were determined. A comparison of EDR data was also made.
